Course Description: It is a six (6) week online course for students from the University of UDELAS in Panama (Central America). The course's main objectives will be to familiarize students with different reading strategies, activate and reinforce other skills such as grammar and critical thinking, expand and enrich vocabulary by learning new words, and later use them in their professional settings.
General Course Information: This course will help you develop your understanding of different reading strategies and their usage through many mini-tasks. Besides, this course will introduce a few technological tools you will use to create your assignments. It will be an online course. The online learning environment will be dynamic and collaborative.

Course Overview: Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of reading strategies and develop new vocabulary words related to their health field. They will also speak about health-related topics based on the information they read in different texts. In short, they can strengthen their all-linguistic skills using texts as their principal source. Additionally, they will develop their understanding of using different technological tools to express themselves in writing or speaking.
By the end of the course, students will
- Develop language learning skills and strategies through reading and interacting with various authentic texts and audiovisual learning materials in a health-related context.
- Expand knowledge of specific terminology, Pronunciation, and grammatical structure awareness through reading and interacting with various authentic texts and audiovisual learning materials in a health-related context.
- Build the confidence to reflect and analyze the given texts in writing and speaking.

Course Structure: The course consists of three two-week modules. When you access the CANVAS learning management system, you will find all the information about the course in the Syllabus. You will also find detailed information about the course in the modules. You can access all material, activities, assignments, discussions, and resources in modules. You will receive notifications and announcements before the beginning of each module. It will help you understand what is coming ahead.

Module title: Staying healthy.
Module learning objectives:
Objective # 1: Given an online text, students will identify the main ideas and key details with at least 90% accuracy.
Objective # 2: Given an online text, students will identify the main verbs, auxiliary verbs, connectors, and linking words with at least 90% accuracy.
Objective # 3: Given an online text, students will summarize the information in a 15-sentence paragraph, connecting it to the real world and personal experience using connectors and linking words.
Objective # 4: Given an online text and other websites from the Internet, students will construct short audio and a video stating how to be healthy using at least two main ideas from the text.
Objective # 5: Given an online text and a TED talk, students will construct an infographic in a group utilizing the most crucial information from the text and the TED talk.

Special Announcement
- The online course will start on Monday, and it will finish on the following Sunday. Try your level best to complete your assignments within the established due dates. It will help us all to follow the pre-established course schedule. Additionally, it will help you keep up good grades, too. You can always do additional practice activities if you finish your module beforehand. It is also crucial to work collaboratively for group work activities. Keep in mind that you should keep in touch with your classmates. If you face any extraordinary situation, you can always approach me.
- Completing all your discussion form assignments is mandatory for active communication, engagement, and interaction. It is highly recommended that you read your classmates' posts, too. Finally, you will be requested to reply to one of your classmate's posts. It will enhance your learning by allowing you to exchange your experiences and learning with your classmates throughout the course.
- Give 8 to 10 hours weekly to finish your assignments. It is wise to organize yourself beforehand.
